My contributions to the virtual exhibition
The contribution I made to the project has mostly been the overall design and format of the website for the exhibition, as a group we ran into a lot of problems with uploading videos onto artsteps, so we devised to create a website with links to art steps, host videos and link to the other social media accounts. it ended up becoming kind of like a hub for all the other aspects of the virtual exhibition.
I decided to use wix for the website as web design is something I was completely new too, so working with something template based definitely helped. I had heard it was very user friendly and good for beginners without being too basic, which wads what I wanted.
We managed to circumnavigate the video issues through wix as it worked with a lot of different formats and allowed all the video based projects to be displayed. there were some issues with larger image files, but as they were being displayed on the web we could downsize the files without losing any quality or resolution to the images.

I found theming was pretty easy to match with the colour pallet and motifs the advertisement team came up with. I wanted to have a sense of unity between social media accounts and the website, so I carried on the digital theme throughout the website
We also decided to make use of the avatars through the Meet the artist page, this also had everyone's artist statements available to view through clicking on the icon.

Wix also had an extensive free photo library so I looked through a handful of different cityscape/ digital/ light based artworks but eventually settled for the out of focus reflection of the city with the raindrops as I felt it matched well with the aesthetic of the advertisement and the theme. I did try to incorperate the banner from the social media into the website but it was a bit too low res, so I opted to use the logo against the darker background as I found it had nice contrast.
Because we had to wait for all of the work to be submitted and collected by the assets team, I started figuring out most of the design choices for the website. This would mean when we had the assets it would be a matter of uploading the content on to the website and making small fixes here and there. As of the 06/08 I had gotten this far with the website
The social media tab mostly stayed the same except for a few minor aesthetic changes. I also wanted the social media to be accessible from any page, so hyperlinks can be found through clicking the icons at the bottom of every webpage. I also wanted to be able to showcase and create a sneak peak for the social media posts, which was why I thought having a social media tab specifically for those posts would be helpful and make the accounts more accessible for visitors to the website, if they missed the icons at the bottom of the page.
the major changes I made afterwards was mostly with the meet the artists page, as I found the cpation space had an unmentioned word limit, luckily as a group we managed to find a solution by having pop ups, but having to redo everything on the page the day before it was due was a little stressful. we also reformatted the video and front page as we felt the trailer would look better on the front, welcoming people, however as this didnt pan out we swapped it with the advertisement poster.
There were a few last minute hiccups, especially with artsteps not working, but now that its fixed we've gotten everything under control. I'm really happy with how the website turned out, and I think the biggest change we had to make last minute with the artist statements/meet the artists actually turned out better than before.

Great job organising and executing the website. It was a great addition to the Artsteps gallery.
