Now that I'm pretty set on my characters design, I wanted to create an sartwork of how she might possibly look in a 3D environment. I took inspiration from "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of The Wild" when I created the artwork. I really love the brighter cell shaded character models with limited lines.
I first started off with a sketch. I tried to keep in mind the 3D aspect by adding lots of volume to the hair and how big locks of curly hair would be modeled. I also started thinking about the shade on the character and where it would fall/what details it would highlight
Next I moved onto doing the flat colours. Usually I would do linework but I thought in a 3D model I wouldnt really get that, so I stuck with just flat colours.
Next came shading, I wasnt too sure about getting straight into blocking out areas of shade, so I kind of blended using a multiply layer and clipping mask to get a general feel of where shadows would go and what features needed focus to make the picture coherent.
After this I went through and selected solid chunks of shade and lighting. I also wasn't quite happy with the skin colour and how desaturated it looked, so I changed that using the magic wand and image>adjustments>Hue/saturation to tweak it.
I also added a thin black outline around the outside just to make it look a little more polished and clean, and to make it stand out against the background.
I feel like the final result is a good blend of my own artstyle and character design with the 3D feel inspired by the Breath of the Wild artstyle. I want to achieve this look or something similar with my final 3D model.
