Stop motion lighting
Before shooting we received some helpful tips on how to light a scene in preparation for shooting stop motion animation.

-Stop motion requires two lamps on a stage as this will counteract the strobing effects that lights can often have in a scene, especially if the exposure is quite long
-The more powerful light should be placed in front of and at a 45 degree from the less powerful screen
a third lamp should be positioned over the animation stage and onto the background
-when only one light is available translucent paper should be used between to reduce strobing effects
In stop motion filming should be avoided outside as the light is too hard to control
When shooting we were limited to the lights we could use as many other groups also needed lamps. We managed to use two larger lamps and a smaller desk lamp to effectively create a three light set up. some days we had to shoot with the fluorescent lights on overhead as other groups were working at the same time, however having the three light setup definitely eliminated the strobing effects.

For the 2D cutout aspect of our stopmotion we were considering using a lighbox that I brought in from home, but the paper we used for assets didnt work too well, so we opted to light it normally instead of going for a more backlit approach like Lotte reiniger
