Stop Motion short films

We've started to look at the proposal and what to do in terms of log lines, character descriptions and plot synopsis's. We created a shared word document for our proposal document so we can each put in the information relevant to the topics we each decided to focus on.

I will continue to update the document with my artist models and concept art that I have created for the character designs. I will also go through and annotated the artist models and what specifically I liked in terms of style etc.

Out of the animations watched these were some that I really liked the artstyle/set/character designs off that I may use when creating the stopmotion project.

Replacement animation made use of replacing the parts of a model instead of just moving a puppet in a permanent state. Instead of having to reanimate certain movements the limbs can be replaced and the figures move that way. This was likened to 3D animation where one animation can be viewed from an infinite amount of angles without having to be reanimated fully.

Created a lot of childrens media from the 50s-80s in the UK
They make use of stopmotion and cutout. I really like the use of fabric as a material used for the characters that the pair used in stopmotion, which is something I want to incorporate into my character designs

Closed Mondays was the first stopmotion to win an oscar in 1975
I think the set design for this stop motion is really clean and is something me could try to emulate as most of it will also be indoors in a simple room.

Origami stopmotion
simplistic but effective
very bright and dreamlike
effective use of music being mixed with animation
I enjoyed the simplistic but fun design of the characters, as well as the bright colours, I feel like it made the characters really likeable and appealing.

Henry Selick is the director behind Nightmare before Christmas, James and the giant peach and Coraline. Coraline was a big influence for the 3D character designs of my character, especially with the face shape and materials used.
