One of the biggest influential films of the 1970s was Star Wars, directed by George lucas. The scifi film wasn't the first of the director's, as he also created Freiheit and Electronic Labyrinth THX 1138 4EB as student films, one of which was later turned into a full length feature film, THX 1138.

Star Wars success was met with a lot of copycat films, one of which being Star Crash, released in 1978 and featuring David Hasselhoff. The movie featured similar sets, props (light swords, laser guns) similar characters, art styles, use of models/ sets and stopmotion animation, and had a similar storyline to Star Wars.

Freiheit (1966)
Freiheit is a short film with very little explanation about what is happening in a narrative way. overall it feels more like a commentary on the freedom of humanity then a detailed storyline or world. The commentary at the end definitely pushes the message for freedom, even though the viewer doesnt know what the main character was running from or his situation in which he is being hunted down. This might have been a way for Lucas to comment on how freedom is a general concept that pretty much any person can understand and want despite their circumstances.

Electric Labrynth THX 1138 4EB (1967) is interesting because its a glimpse at a sci fi project that he tackled before Star Wars, but also has elements of his first film, including themes like freedom and not exp[laining the situation too much. In both these student Films Lucas focuses more on themes and storytelling rather than detailed lore or world building. The viewer is kind of just dropped into the world and has to figure it out for themselves. Electric Labrynth also shows a more complex set design then the empty fields used in freiheit, and it is easy to see how the sets progressed further in Star Wars and his reshot extended version of his student film.
