I really enjoyed the mix of stop motion, object animation and using humans throughout the animation process in Neighbours by Norman McLaren (1952). the use of stop motion really makes it stand out against a lot of other animations of this era, and I think they managed to play to the mediums strong suits. I also think the strange distorted music and sound effects adds to the overall quirky aesthetic of the film

Halas and Batchelor's Animal farm

From the trailer and small clips that I've seen I think its interesting to see such a political and adult focused concept portrayed in a medium with characters that could be easily dismissed as being marketed for children. I havent read animal farm but I had read 1984. The film definitely reflects the political climate of the time a few years after the end of WW2, where cartoons from other periods arent as political in some cases.

George Pal was a director from hungary working in hollywood, and produced the Mixed Medium film Tom Thumb in 1958. Tom Thumb had an Interesting technique of combining sets, live action and stop motion within the movie. It looks as if they filmed live action parts and stop motion before superimposing tomb thumb into shots using a green or bluescreen.

Taiji Yabushita was an influential director in Japan who created the film Japanese animated feature film called "Legend of the White Snake" in 1958. The animation style is traditional 2D and in colour. The art style seems kind of similar to Disneys style of the time with similar body proportions.I really liked how smooth and fluid the animation was overall. I also really like the style of the watercolour backgrounds as I feel it adds to the mystical feeling of the story.
