Values Paintings
For part of my portfolio I wanted to try to experiment with different types of painting, especially styles that lend itself well to line-less artworks. On technique I had wanted to try for a while was painting with values of black / white / grey and then painting over top with colour, lighting and shading.

Because I was also not using lines I had to paint different blocks of values in the foreground, mid-ground and background just to make the painting a bit more manageable.
After that i then went in with a colour burn layer and blocked out all of the colour tones I wanted in the scene. because I wanted it to be a Darker scene I opted to go with muted and darker colours then the other paintings I ended up doing.
After the colours and values were lay down I went through and added shading with multiply layers and clipping masks, as well as lighting using hard/soft light layers. to shade the scene I wanted to use the tones already used throughout the blocked out colours, so green, purple and pink were the colours mainly used to add depth and texture.
