Screen arts: Cutout animation
Surrealist Animation Artist model:
Terry Gilliam
I really enjoyed watching Terry Gilliam's animations, especially being able to see his documented process of creating and getting inspirations for the films that he makes.
I also discovered that he wrote a book that explores the animation process and the mindset that animators and other creatives often have.
I also recognised his style, or at least a mixed media approach to animation or stop motion in a few more modern pieces, as well as its origins in early cinema. I really love the overall aesthetic of mixing illustration with real world objects, especially in things such as Madoka Magica and the Little Big Planet Game franchise. While a few of these examples arent exactly cutout, they do incorporate mixed media, which can also be seen through Terry Gillias animations
Mixed Media Animation Artstyles In media:
Madoka Magica

Amazing World of Gumball
KT Tunstall - Suddenly I see MV

Lilly Allen - Somewhere only we know MV
Franz Ferdinand -Take Me Out MV

The Adventures of Prince Achmed (1926) - Lotte Reiniger

Good picture examples and commentary! You did a great job of linking this technique to current practitioners.
