Step Outline - Dream Warrior

For the step outline, I felt as though the story I originally wanted to go with would either be too long, or too rushed with everything I wanted to do, so Instead, I've decided to create a step outline for the first act, and save either the second or third act for the comic making assignment. I also decided to get rip of some unnecessary scenes like Deedee waking up and getting on the train to work, and instead added in a few more scenes of her trying and failing to get to sleep.

STEP OUTLINE

“DREAM WARRIOR”

[Dream Warrior is a short animation that follows a young girl who fights evil by night and fights taxes by day.]

1. INT. [OFFICE] – [MORNING]

DEEDEE is sitting in her cubicle at work. The lighting in the background shows the progression of time throughout the day. As time progresses, DEEDEE looks increasingly tired. At the end of the day, DEEDEE grabs her bag and leaves work for the day. As DEEDEE leaves she stops and looks at a poster advertising a website for workers who are tired but continues walking.

2.EXT.  [BATHROOM] – [EVENING]

DEEDEE drops her bag on the floor, gets changed into pajamas and brushes her teeth.

3. INT. [BEDROOM] – [EVENING]

DEEDEE falls onto her bed. Her alarm clock reads 10PM. She tries to fall asleep but can’t seem to. She ends up in several different positions. She closes her eyes and tries to count sheep which are shown in a thought bubble, but it doesn’t work. She does one push up but then collapses. The alarm clock now reads 2AM. DEEDEE Pulls up the website she spotted from before on her cell phone. The website guarantees a decent sleep for all users. DEEDEE hits the Accept terms and conditions without reading them. A bright light emerges from the phone and DEEDEE is sucked in.

4.EXT. [SPACE VOID] – [NIGHT]

DEEDEE falls into the void, as she falls her appearance begins to change. DEEDEEs pajamas transforms in a flash of light into a fantasy outfit. DEEDEEs hair turns into a light blue. A cloud sword forms in her hand. She continues falling, but the background begins to turn into a lighter sky blue.

5.EXT. [FLOATING ISLANDS] – [Morning]

DEEDEE slows down before hitting the island, and lands. A scroll pops into existence in front of her. DEEDEE opens and reads the contract. It explains how she will fight monsters in exchange for sleep. DEEDEE finishes reading and looks around to see monsters on the island approaching. DEEDEE looks up and is confused and scared.
