Spirited Away

this week we were tasked to watch another movie from the list and summarise our thoughts. I chose to watch Spirited Away, a film directed by Hayao Miyazaki and animated by Studio Ghibli.

Spirited Away was a movie I had heard a lot about, but one I'd never gotten the chance to sit down and watch. I've seen several other Miyazaki films, Including My Neighbor Totoro, Howls Moving Castle and Princess Mononoke.

I really enjoyed watching Spirited away, it seems like most of Miyazakis films tend to follow a fairly simple story set in fantasy worlds. Often the fate of the world inst really in peril, but the characters still face personal challenges and setbacks that feel as though they really do matter to the characters. I think the small details really sell the magical feeling of the worlds he creates. The spirit creatures especially grabbed my attention, as often they are quite simplistic in design, but really eye catching and memorable. The colour pallet of the film is also very pleasing to look at, and features lots of vibrant colours

with the animation itself, I love studio Ghiblis use of movement. even if the character is standing still, they seem very much alive, and small things are noticeable such as how the characters hair or clothing interacts with the wind.
