DW Poster project
For our first story boarding project we have to hand in a finished 3 act screenplay/script as well as an A3 poster that will advertise our animations/animatics. I decided to come up with a few thumbnail sketches just to explore ideas and layout for my poster. I decided to look up various posters for other movies and shows, and I found a common theme throughout all of them was a large focus on the central characters, often these would take up a majority of the poster. Posters also tended to incorporate some aspects of their story into the poster, whether this be through items of significance or through environmental art. In the end I came up with 6 concepts for a poster.
I'm happy with most of the designs except maybe the 5th one, I feel like its too empty and plain. having the main character just standing there doesn't really sell the animation, and wont tell the viewer much about the story.
I liked the 6th posters concept, but the layout is a bit wonky. I think if I were to redraw this in a second sketch I would try to use a few references of train interiors to get a better idea of layout. I would also try to add more focus on the poster of the Dream warrior, instead of it being partially obscured by Deedees head.
The second and third Ideas I also liked, but I like how the other designs incorporate both Deedee and her Secret Identity. If I could find a way to work her into these poster concepts then I might be more willing to use them.
The first concept I also really like, but I feel like it would suit a comic cover better for some reason. I really do like the design, but I think I might save it for the comic making project in Drawing.
The forth concept is another one I really like. The merging colourful shadows seems like a fun concept, but the rest of the page looks very blank. If I could think of an interesting background to put into it then it might also be a contender.
Currently I think I'm likely to use the 6th concept as a poster to advertise the animation, but I plan to go in and create some secondary sketches that improve on the things that I felt were missing or not quite right about the initial thumbnail sketches.
I also need to keep in consideration the brief for the poster. The A3 Poster has to contain:
Title
Log line
Target audience
Genre
Art unique to the story in final style and colour
My Name.
