Artist Inspirations

One of my main Inspirations who really compelled me to pursue animation as a career is the late Monty Oum. Monty was an Animator who created the critically acclaimed web series RWBY with internet company Rooster Teeth. RWBY was so unlike anything I'd ever seen before, and I instantly fell in love with it. The fight choreography, the art style and the music really resonated with me, and I was amazed that a small team of independent animators could pull off such an ambitious project. I feel like I've always wanted to do art, but so often I would get discouraged by others. I convinced myself that I couldn't make a living from art, because that's what I was told by so many people as a kid. I was told I couldn't make a career out of it, that I would never make money, but the show made me realise that if I was willing to put in the effort and stop making excuses then I could one day help to make something like that.

Kohei Horikoshi is another big influence of mine. He is most well known for his manga series My Hero Academia, but has also worked on other projects such as Barrage and Oumagadoki Zoo. His style of comic book art is often quite easy to read and understand while still having outstanding details. He also really manages to show the movement of his characters despite being limited to still frames of comic books.  I particularly love his character designs, and the way he can take simple concepts and genres and play to their strengths incredibly well. My Hero Academia is a series that I follow very closely, and its world building is really fascinating and believable.  The animated series adapted by Studio Bones is also fantastic, and features some really amazingly animated scenes, but the care and detail that Horikoshi puts into his work is something very hard to replicate.

I also consider a lot of these artists to be a sort of influence on my current artstyle, as I find I tend to replicate aspects of their art or artstyles.
What I hope to achieve this year is to really expand my knowledge and art style. before I focus on really perfecting a certain type of art, I want to experiment with different mediums and techniques to help grow my skill set. I would also like to improve in drawing environments and backgrounds, as well as improving in digital painting and creating lineless works. Drawing realistically from observation is also another skill I would like to improve on.
