All About me
My full name is Emma Katherine Mitchell, and I was born on the 22nd of December 2000, in North Shore hospital, Auckland. My family moved down to Invercargill before I turned one, and I moved a few years after to Bluff, where I spent most of my childhood. Growing up in a small fishing/port town at the bottom of the world meant that there wasn't a whole lot to do, so often I found myself doing lots of art, which is where I think my love for drawing began.
I also really loved video games and cartoons as a kid, some of my favourite games growing up being many creative based games like Little Big Planet and Minecraft, where the player often had to make things to problem solve and progress. Cartoons were also a way to escape reality for a bit, and something I enjoyed watching immensely as a kid. Both these things have had a significant impact on my life, which is partly why I wanted to become an animator. I really would love to go into 2D animation, or something similar like illustration or comic making. While I have always known that I love drawing, 3D animation is something that interests me too. I have very limited experience with it, as I have only used it during my star course I took last year at SIT, but I'm very eager to learn more in the future.
As for the movies I like, I grew up watching a lot of science fiction and action movies, which I feel shaped my taste a lot. One of my favourite directors would have to be J.J.Abrams, who has worked on many titles such as Star Wars: The Force Awakens, several Mission Impossibles, Star Trek, and the Cloverfield Series. I feel like his works always have a really nice sense of story progression, and I often find myself heavily immersed in the films that he has directed or produced.
Another inspiration for me in the creative industry is the late Monty Oum, an Animator who created one of the most successful web animation series: RWBY. RWBY is a show that I have followed since its first season, and I was drawn to its stunning fight animation. The choreography and animation style really connected to me, and I remember watching his works over and over again as a small 13 year old. What really amazed me is that animation like this was made by a small team of creators based solely on the internet. I always loved art but was often discouraged as a child. I was told I couldn't make a career out of it, that I would never make money, but the show made me realise that if I was willing to put in the effort and stop making excuses then I could one day help to make something like that.
